Carnival Cruise Lines’ new partnership with comedian George Lopez kicks off today with the opening of a Lopez-branded comedy club on the Carnival Miracle.
The Punchliner Comedy Club presented by George Lopez, as it’s being called, is a concept that eventually will go fleet-wide as part of the line’s massive “Fun Ship 2.0″ overhaul announced late last year.
Carnival announced in October that it had tapped Lopez as its new “curator of comedy” in a partnership that will see the comedian involved in vetting and hiring comedic talent for Carnival ships.
The new Carnival comedy club will offer five 35-minute shows on multiple nights during each voyage, with at least two comedians performing each night. Two early-evening shows will be aimed at families with later performances featuring saltier, adults-only comedy. The shows are accessible to cruisers at no extra charge.

Carnival says Lopez has recorded a number of light-hearted greetings that will be shown on the Carnival Miracle’s in-cabin televisions and played during introductions of comedy club performances.
Carnival also is adding a new Punchliner Comedy Brunch presented by George Lopez that will take place on sea days in the 2,124-passenger ship’s main dining room. The brunch is open at no extra charge and includes live five- to six-minute comic performances every hour while passengers dine.
The brunch menu includes items that Carnival says have been inspired by Lopez’s Mexican heritage, including two “George’s Recipes” dishes created by the comedian himself.
Also launching today on the Carnival Miracle is The Taste Bar, another new concept for Carnival that it says will roll out fleet-wide by the summer of 2013. The Taste Bar features complimentary bite-size appetizers inspired by the new themed dining venues the line is adding to its ships including the Mexican-serving BlueIguana Cantina and Italian-serving Cucina del Capitano.
The Taste Bar will be open from approximately 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. on sea days and select port days. Its location will vary by ship, with Carnival Miracle’s Taste Bar offered on the Promenade Deck in a recently renovated venue that formerly housed the vessel’s sushi bar.
The new venues debut on the Carnival Miracle today as it kicks off a new series of year-round, eight-day cruises from New York. Three different itineraries include stops in the Eastern Caribbean; Bahamas and Florida.
