San Fernando Elementary School George Lopez Auditorium Naming

GEORGE LOPEZ MAKES THE GRADE WITH DEDICATION CEREMONY OF GEORGE LOPEZ AUDITORIUM AT SAN FERNANDO ELEMENTARY SCHOOL ON OCT. 18

Los Angeles, CA (October 18, 2011) – Rodney Dangerfield went “Back to School,” but George Lopez actually gets to have his name on one.  On Tuesday, October 18, San Fernando Elementary School will honor former student Lopez with a dedication ceremony, which will include a presentation and ribbon-cutting unveiling of the new George Lopez Auditorium.

“The incredible career I’ve had so far, the chance to make my dreams come true… none of this would have been possible without the lessons and opportunities I had at San Fernando Elementary School,” said Lopez.  “It’s a joy and an honor to have the auditorium named after me, and I hope it will inspire generations of students to reach for their own dreams.”

“Over the past five years, Mr. Lopez has generously provided our students toys for the holidays, sponsored field trips for our students and most recently donated much-needed lighting and sound system equipment for our auditorium, greatly assisting our orchestra, theatre and dance arts program,” said Maria Awakian, principal of San Fernando Elementary School.  “Thank you, Mr. Lopez, for helping us keep the arts alive and thriving at San Fernando Elementary!”

The City of San Fernando will close Mott Street in front of the elementary school where students, faculty members, city officials, residents and other VIP guests will gather for the presentation at 9:00 a.m.  A special plaque will be unveiled on the outside of the George Lopez Auditorium with the inscription “Sabes Que?” and “If You Don’t Believe, You Can’t Achieve.”  The school is presenting Lopez with this distinct honor for his generous support to the school over the years including the annual Toy Drive held there with The Lopez Foundation and a donation for a new sound and lighting equipment in the auditorium.  Following the dedication ceremony, student performances will be held for invited guest in the new auditorium.

The Lopez Foundation’s mission is to create positive, permanent change for underprivileged children and adults confronting challenges in education and health, as well as increasing community awareness about kidney disease and organ donation.  For more information about the Lopez Foundation, visit www.thelopezfoundation.org.
